When you become an Inc. you are actually in really great company.
To most people Inc. means something quite different.
It probably means Incorporated.
For me, unfortunately, Inc. has meant Incurable and this is all because of a cancer diagnosis. But confronting my own mortality has been an eye-opener.
I’ve learned that Incurable really doesn’t mean incapable, incomplete or inconsequential. It isn’t the hopeless situation you might imagine.
Now, not everything that is incurable is all bad news. For example, I’m an incurable optimist and that’s a good thing. I’d like to think I was also an incurable romantic too and that’s also a good thing but let’s not go into that!
But no, Inc. for a cancer patient is not normally good news. In fact, it’s pretty rubbish.
However, I’m determined to put a positive spin on it because there is one word that also describes anyone with an incurable diagnosis (of any illness) and that is Incredible.
Yes, Inc. stands for Incredible and if you are an Inc. then that means you.
Wear these 3 letters with tremendous pride because you are remarkable. If you are able to live a full life in the face of not so great odds then that makes you Incredible.
There are lots of Incredible people around and many are living with their illnesses with grace, dignity, energy and positivity.
These Incredible people get up and press on each day whilst living with enormous uncertainty in their lives.
Incredible people live with the Sword of Damocles dangling above their heads but still manage to keep smiling. That’s incredible don’t you think?
If you are someone with an incurable diagnosis then you are automatically made an Inc. so don’t worry about any long-winded application process, we haven’t the time for that!
Being Incredible comes with a few responsibilities of course such as being a fabulous role model to others but you’ve got that in the bag already so no worries.
Some people get the OBE or the MBE but some of us get to use Inc. and that’s rather special too.
Here’s another thing. Whilst you are going about your day as an Incredible person, remember that there is always the possibility you can beat the odds. You can be that statistical anomaly and outlier. Chances are, you are that glitch in the matrix anyway.
Incurable might not be the life sentence you envisaged.
It doesn’t have to mean game over.
Inc. means that you have an Incredible amount still left to give. You are amazeballs, you are astounding and you can still keep living a great life.
Being an Inc. means you have a tremendous spirit and you don’t let that diagnosis curtail you.
If there was still any doubt in your mind what an exceptional marvel you are then remember awesome sauce was created with you in mind.
Redefining incurable and being an Incredible person is better for your well-being and quality of life.
You are Incredible which nobody can deny!
Now, get on, it’s showtime!
