Would You Rather?
One of my favourite games and creative literacy activities that children can really get their teeth into is to to play ‘Would you rather?’
You know the sort of thing:
Would you rather…
have a cat that barks
OR
a dog that meows?
Would you rather…
be trapped in a room with a friendly tiger
OR
20 bumblebees?
Those are two example from Natalie Fleming’s Would You Rather Game Book For Kids
This one is from a Riddleland book:
Would you rather…
be able to jump into any painting and to walk around and explore with the ability to return when you wanted
OR
jump into a TV show or film and return when you wanted?
They come in all shapes, sizes, flavours and moods. Here’s one from Hayden Fox and his collection:
Would you rather…
Get even but never get over it
OR
get over it but never get even?
Here’s one from Daisy Petal’s Would You Rather Book For Kids:
Would you rather….
have night vision
OR
the ability to shrink yourself?
The Learning Zone ask
Would you rather….
Always be an hour early to everywhere you go
OR
Always be an hour late to everywhere you go?
Clint Hammerstrike asks
Would you rather have all your meals covered in gravy OR cheese for a year?
One of the 500 questions Heather Collins asks in her book is:
Would you rather ride a warhorse OR drive a tank?
And Quinn Addison asks
Would you rather…
always have an itch
OR
always have a cough?
In my experience, children are brilliant at creating ‘Would you rather?’ examples that are better than any published work so let them have a go and see what they come up with.
