GoInspireMe

Imagine if we could have a ‘GoInspireMe’ site where people can ‘donate’ motivational and energising messages of support.

I recently posted this idea on the social media platform X and people seemed to like the idea.

It’s always been my ambition to share more positivity, optimism and hope. It’s important to me because I know the motivational power of words to restore, rouse and rejuvenate. They can make you feel all sparkly.

I’ve often seen people post requests for money on sites like GoFundMe in order to help them through a difficult chapter in their lives. In many cases, this can be a real lifesaver.

But it’s not always about the money.

Sometimes, what people need above all else is to feel emotionally fortified and socially connected. Not everyone can get that on tap and not everyone has a queue of well-wishers or a support network around them.

People need to hear that they are valued, wanted and cared about, even by complete strangers. It can make all the difference.

Rather than feel castaway and castoff, it would help people feel far less isolated and far more loved.

We build a community of humanity by being nice to one another not by being toxic.

The most obvious way to use a GoInspireMe page would be for anyone going through a serious illness. These are the times when you feel the most vulnerable and the most fragile so a few positive comments are always more than welcome.

Supportive comments help lighten the load, they give people a mental boost and help inject some positivity and happiness into the day. They nudge us to feel better, to smile and to find the will to keep going.

Motivational messages apply to anyone at anytime and aren’t exclusive to ill-health. They could be for someone about to embark on a sporting challenge, an exam or an important trip. It doesn’t have to be anything special either. You might just want to say something nice.

What sort of thing could you ‘donate’? It depends on the person and situation: upbeat affirmations, day brighteners, ‘thinking-of-you’ comments, mantras, positive proverbs, quirky quotes and even jokes.

We could all use a little encouragement now and then. We all want the feel-good factor.

If we have the opportunity to tell someone to their face then we should do so but that isn’t always possible.

Comments written down for the world to see make this more powerful.

GoInspireMe requires no money, just donating a fraction of your time. It’s just basic, good citizenship.

What you say to someone might just make their day and move their thinking in a whole new direction. It could lift their spirits and give them a real spring in their step.

Sign your name if you like or just leave an anonymous ‘donation’ but when you get the chance, plant some inspiration and upgrade how others feel about themselves.
