@RefugeeWeek takes place this year on the 17-23 June.

The idea behind Refugee Week is for people to come together to celebrate our shared humanity. It is a nationwide umbrella festival and programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.

The theme for 2019 is ‘You, me and those who came before’

This is an invitation to explore the lives of refugees such as those escaping war and persecution – and those who have welcomed them – throughout the generations and to provide an important opportunity for asylum seekers and refugees to be seen, listened to and valued.

We can all take part in Refugee Week by engaging in some very simple acts (#SimpleActs). These are everyday actions we can all do to stand with refugees and make new connections in our communities. They are:

  1. Share a story
  2. Find out who you really are
  3. Share a dish
  4. Feel the beat
  5. Find one fact
  6. Write a poem
  7. Join the movement

Our ultimate aim is to create better understanding between different communities and to encourage successful integration, enabling refugees to live in safety and continue making a valuable contribution.
